A Joliet man was found guilty of attempted first-degree murder for a 2009 knife attack against his former girlfriend, according to the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Jurors found Bradley Schlott, 48, guilty of attempted first-degree murder at the conclusion of a five-day trial March 2. He is scheduled to be sentenced May 3 and faces between six and 30 years in prison.

According to prosecutors, Schlott attacked his former girlfriend on the morning of March 12, 2009, while she was getting ready for work in the Joliet house they shared. Schlott, who believed the victim was having an affair, repeatedly punched her in the face, grabbed her by the hair, and threw her to the ground. The state’s attorney’s office said he then used a knife to cut away chunks of her hair before slicing her neck and the side of her left breast.

The victim, who was bleeding and bruised, began to beg for her life, eventually convincing her attacker to call 911 by telling him she would say her injuries were the result of an accident. A physician testified for the prosecution during the trial that the victim would have died had she not been treated for her injuries.

“Bradley Schlott is a weak and jealous man who savagely attacked his former girlfriend because he could no longer control her,” State’s Attorney James Glasgow said in a statement. “By fighting back, this courageous victim not only saved her own life but helped police and prosecutors put this monster behind bars.”

Assistant state’s attorneys Tricia McKenna and Marie Griffin presented evidence at trial, including letters written by Schlott, to prove he had every intention of killing his girlfriend. One letter to the victim’s father, mother and brother apologized for her murder, and alleged that she was cheating and had robbed him of his money, family, career, dignity and sanity. A second letter to the victim’s boss accused him and her co-workers of covering up the alleged affair and stated, “I’m not sorry for what I did at all.”

These letters shattered the defense attorney’s theory that Schlott attacked his girlfriend after he had become involuntarily intoxicated on prescription medication he was using to treat his depression.

A Plainfield man was charged with reckless homicide in connection with an alleged street racing incident that occurred Dec. 4 and resulted in the death of an Aurora man, according to the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Jeffrey A. Bledsoe, 20, of the 25000 block of Pastoral Drive, was charged March 8 with nine counts of reckless homicide. Prosecutors said Bledsoe’s conduct while driving caused a crash that resulted in the death of 49-year-old Charles Siebel. Bledsoe also was charged with two counts of aggravated street racing, one count of aggravated speeding and one count of reckless driving.

Each count of reckless homicide alleges specific acts of reckless conduct that caused another vehicle to crash into Siebel’s Toyota Highlander, according to the state’s attorney. Those acts include engaging in street racing, various speeding allegations and failing to drive in a single lane. Siebel’s 15-year-old daughter also was injured in the crash. Bledsoe was driving a Pontiac Grand Prix.

Bledsoe initially had been charged with a series of traffic violations. The Will County State’s Attorney’s Office was awaiting the completion of the police investigation, which included results from an accident reconstruction investigation, before upgrading the charges to felonies. The charges were filed in court March 8 when Bledsoe appeared on the traffic violations. He is scheduled to appear in court on the felony charges March 23.

Prosecutors said the charges filed against Bledsoe allege that his actions caused another vehicle, a Dodge Charger, to strike the Toyota Highlander.

The driver of the Charger, a 16-year-old male, is facing one count of reckless homicide and two counts of aggravated street racing in Will County Juvenile Court. He is scheduled to appear in court next at 9 a.m. April 22.

Reckless homicide is a Class 3 felony that carries a penalty of 2 to 5 years in prison if convicted. Aggravated street racing is a Class 4 felony that carries a penalty of 1 to 12 years in prison. Aggravated speeding and reckless driving are Class A misdemeanors.

Joliet police are conducting a homicide investigation into the death of a man and woman whose bodies were found inside a Joliet auto body repair shop late Wednesday morning.

The bodies of 48-year-old Michael Oram Sr., of Joliet, and 43-year-old Jamie Wills, of Lockport, were discovered shortly before noon inside Fleet Specialty Painting, located in the 800 block of East Cass Street.

“There were injuries that were consistent with homicide, but that’s all that we’re going to say about it at this time,” Joliet Police Deputy Chief Al Roechner said during a press conference Wednesday evening.

Preliminary findings of an autopsy performed Thursday indicate both victims died of multiple blunt force trauma to the head, according to the Will County Coroner’s Office. The Joliet Police Department is treating the incident as a double homicide.

Late Thursday afternoon, CBS News reported that police were questioning a man who was acquainted with at least one of the victims. The man was taken into custody by police Thursday for a parole violation and is considered a “person of interest,” according to the report.

The Joliet Police Department did not return calls seeking comment about the investigation.

Joliet police arrested a Bourbonnais man for the murder of a man and woman whose bodies were found inside a Joliet auto body repair shop March 9.

William N. Krasawski, 41, was taken into custody Thursday and charged with two counts of first-degree murder, according to the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office.

On March 9, an employee at Fleet Specialty Painting discovered two bodies inside the shop, located in the 800 block of East Cass Street. Police were notified at approximately 11:45 a.m., and identified the deceased as 48-year-old Michael Oram Sr., of Joliet, and 43-year-old Jamie Wills, of Lockport.

“There were injuries that were consistent with homicide, but that’s all that we’re going to say about it at this time,” Joliet Police Deputy Chief Al Roechner said during a press conference March 9.

At the time, Roechner said police were investigating the crime scene and analyzing surveillance footage from a couple nearby businesses. The state’s attorney did not say what led investigators to Krasawski, other than he was arrested during the course of the investigation into the murders.

Preliminary findings of an autopsy performed Thursday indicated that both victims died of multiple blunt force trauma to the head, according to the Will County Coroner’s Office.

A teacher at Dirksen Junior High in Joliet arrested last week for predatory criminal sexual assault of a child will appear in front of a Grundy County judge March 24.

Kyle R. Camp, 36, of Minooka, was arrested at his home at 6:30 p.m. March 4 after allegations emerged that Camp had improper contact with a student. Officials at Dirksen said they became aware of the allegations at the end of the school day, and immediately removed Camp from the school.

Joliet Public Schools District 86 spokeswoman Sandy Zalewski said after Camp was removed from the school the district turned the matter over to the Joliet Police Department and the Department of Children and Family Services. District 86 placed Camp on leave and he will not be allowed on district property.

The district added that students or parents who may have information are urged to contact the Joliet Police Department directly.

Students and parents who have any other concerns should contact the principal’s office.
