Information in Police Blotter is obtained from the Niles police departments. Individuals listed in Police Blotter charged with a crime have not been proven guilty in court. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

JUNE 10

Mark Rihani, 21, of unincorporated Maine Township, was taken into custody after police said he was found to have an active criminal trespass warrant from the Cook County Sheriff’s Department.

JUNE 12

A ruse entry scam was reported at a home on the 9800 block of Lauren Lane, police said. A resident of the home told police he was approached by a man who talked about performing fence repairs while also speaking to someone else on a “walkie talkie.” After the man left, the resident discovered clothing inside his closet had been disturbed, but nothing appeared to be missing.

A man and woman allegedly stole $313 worth of energy drinks and vodka from a store at Golf Mill Shopping Center. Police said the pair, who remain at large, are suspects of prior thefts as well.

An iPhone was reported stolen after it was left behind in a shopping cart at a store on the 8900 block of Greenwood Avenue.

Tools estimated at $4,000 were stolen from a van parked on the 8600 block of Dempster Street between 10:30 and 10:55 a.m., police said.

A woman told police that someone took $200 in cash from her wallet while she was away from a desk at IceLand Skate and Swim, 8435 W. Ballard Road.

JUNE 13

A man and woman stole $235 worth of packaged chicken from a store on the 8900 block of Greenwood Avenue, police said.

JUNE 14

Police were called to a store on the 7900 block of Milwaukee Avenue on the afternoon after a 46-year-old man began repeatedly using profanity, despite being asked to stop doing so, police said. He was escorted out of the building and told not to return, according to police.

JUNE 15

A jet ski and trailer were reported stolen from a condominium garage on the 8100 block of Courte Drive overnight between June 14-15.

JUNE 13

Jerome Graham, 31, of Skokie, was charged with retail theft on after police said he took $234 worth of alcohol from a store on the 5700 block of Touhy Avenue.

JUNE 14

Matthew Mercado, 25, of Niles, was charged with driving under the influence, speeding and failure to notify the Secretary of State of an address change, after a traffic stop on the 7700 block of Dempster Street, police said.
