Plainfield police released the name of a man they apprehended after a Tuesday bank robbery at Chase Bank, 13661 Route 59.

Police took custody of James R. Woelfel, of Shorewood, following a short police chase following the bank robbery.

On June 6 at 9:11 A.M. the Plainfield Police Department responded to the area of 13661 Illinois Route 59 in response to an armed bank robbery at Chase Bank.

When officers arrived in the area, they were notified that the robber had fled, that no one was injured and the employees were all accounted for/secure inside the bank. Employees indicated that during the robbery the robber displayed a black semi-automatic handgun and left with an undisclosed amount of cash. A witness then provided a detailed description of his motorcycle and indicated he was last seen traveling east on 127th Street near Naperville/Plainfield Road entering the Farmstone Ridge subdivision.

As officers located the Woelfel just inside the subdivision, he attempted to evade apprehension and subsequently left the roadway, crashing his motorcycle. Officers immediately took him into custody and requested Plainfield Fire Protection District Ambulance Department to evaluate his injuries. After securing the offender, officers located the handgun and proceeds from the robbery.

The offender was transported to Bolingbrook Adventist Hospital and is awaiting transfer to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
