Park Ridge Police arrested David Jilwaya, 44, of Des Plaines, on June 12 while investigating a disturbance in the Landings Shopping Center Parking lot at 2606 E. Dempster St. in Park Ridge .
Park Ridge and Des Plaines Police responded to a disturbance call at approximately 8:30 a.m. in the parking lot. When police arrived Jilwaya fled from the scene in a gray SUV. Officers on scene spoke to the victim and witnesses, who told police that Jilwaya, the owner of a towing service, had a dispute with the victim, one of his employees, a 21-year-old male. The dispute escalated from a verbal to a physical altercation. When Jilwaya fell to the ground during the fight, he pulled out a handgun and fired a single shot at the victim as the victim ran from Jilwaya. The bullet did not strike the victim, or any innocent bystanders.
While police were on scene conducting the investigation, Jilwaya returned and aggressively approached the victim, threatening to kill the victim and using racial slurs. Jilwaya disregarded the orders given by officers and had to be forcibly taken into custody. Police recovered a spent .380 caliber shell casing in the parking lot and a Glock .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun from Jilwaya’s vehicle. Jilwaya has an Illinois concealed carry permit.
Jilwaya is charged with one count of attempted first degree murder.
