Jared Wissmiller
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin announced June 20 that a former teacher and coach at Lake Park High School in Roselle was sentenced to eight years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for having inappropriate sexual contact with a minor female student. Jared Wissmiller, 28, of Downers Grove, entered an agreed plea of guilty this morning to one count of Criminal Sexual Assault, a Class 1 Felony. Wissmiller has been in custody at the DuPage County Jail since turning himself in on May 31, 2017 on a $75,000 full cash bond.
Today’s sentencing is the result of allegations that Wissmiller, who, according to the indictment, “held, as a high school teacher and coach, … a position of trust, authority, or supervision in relation to” the victim engaged in inappropriate sexual behavior with the minor. An investigation led by the DuPage County Children’s Center into the allegations revealed that Wissmiller engaged in inappropriate sexual behavior with his victim from June 1, 2016, through September 2016.
“This morning, Jared Wissmiller admitted that he used his position as a teacher to take advantage of a young girl solely to satisfy his sick sexual desires,” Berlin said. “Today’s sentence of eight years behind bars and a lifetime registration as a sex offender will ensure that Mr. Wissmiller will be unable to prey upon unsuspecting, innocent students for the rest of his life. I would like to thank the DuPage County Children’s Center, particularly Investigator Cathy Hundley, who did an outstanding job in uncovering the truth in this very disturbing case. I would also like to thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Mike Pawl and Jennifer Lindt for their efforts in holding Mr. Wissmiller responsible for his behavior.”
Wissmiller will be required to serve 85 percent of his sentence before being eligible for parole. He will also be required to register as a sex offender for life.
