Park Ridge police officers responded to 800 block of Devon Avenue last week for the report of a retail theft and aggravated assault.
A news release from the Park Ridge Police Department alleges that 52-year-old Park Ridge resident Daniel Cushing entered a nearby store around 2 p.m. Aug. 6 and walked out with merchandise without paying. Upon being confronted by a store employee, the suspect allegedly brandished a knife and threatened the employee before fleeing the scene.
Officers located Cushing near 600 Devon Avenue, where they say he charged an officer with the knife before fleeing on a bicycle. Officers follow the suspect and again attempted to apprehend him near 1300 S. Crescent.
According to the police department, Cushing began moved toward the officers and disregarded their orders to drop the knife. Officers used a Taser on the man, and he was taken into custody.
Police said Cushing refused medical treatment and was transported to the Park Ridge Police Department for processing.
Cushing was charged with one count of armed robbery, a Class X felony; three counts of aggravated assault, a Class A misdemeanor; one count of unlawful use of a weapon, a Class A misdemeanor; and one count of retail theft, a Class A misdemeanor.
A bond hearing was scheduled for Aug. 9.
