The Park Ridge Police Department is investigating a possible attempted child abduction in a residential neighborhood near Dempster Plaza on Memorial Day.

Officers responded to the 1900 block of Parkside Drive at approximately 5:50 p.m. May 30 for the report of a suspicious person, according to police department news release.

A 7-year-old boy told officers that he was playing in the area with a friend when an unknown white male approached him, grabbed his arm, and said he had a gun and was a murderer.

Police said the boy pulled away from the man and sustained a minor scratch on his right arm. The victim told police that he ran from the man and was chased a short distance, before the suspect fell to the ground and then ran in the opposite direction.

The suspect is described as a white male of medium build in his early to mid-20s, between 5 feet 9 inches and 6 feet tall, wearing blue shorts/pants, grey shirt and blue hat. Police searched the area but did not find the suspect.

The Park Ridge Police Department is asking anyone with information that could help investigators identify the suspect to call the department at 847-318-5252.
